關於但丁:

阿利蓋利·但丁（意大利語：DanteAlighieri，1265年—1321年）13世紀末，意大利文藝復興的前夜佛羅倫薩誕生了位偉大的男性詩人，這就是被恩格斯譽為“中世紀的最後一位詩人，同時也是新時代的最初一位詩人”的阿利蓋利·但丁（1265—1321）。意大利詩人，現代意大利語的奠基者，歐洲文藝復興時代的開拓人物之一，以長詩《神曲》留名後世。恩格斯評價說：“封建的中世紀的終結和現代資本主義紀元的開端，是以一位大人物為標誌的，這位人物就是意大利人但丁，他是中世紀的最後一位詩人，同時又是新時代的最初一位詩人”。

代表作品：《神曲》，《新生》，《論俗語》，《饗宴》及《詩集》等著作

課程設置

該耶魯大學課程每週在學校上兩次課，每次75分鐘，2008年秋季拍攝作為耶魯大學開放課程使用.

ThecourseisanintroductiontoDanteandhisculturalmilieuthroughacriticalreadingoftheDivineComedyandselectedminorworks(Vitanuova,Convivio,Devulgarieloquentia,EpistletoCangrande).AnanalysisofDante'sautobiography,theVitanuova,establishesthepoeticandpoliticalcircumstancesoftheComedy'scomposition.ReadingsofInferno,PurgatoryandParadiseseektosituateDante'sworkwithintheintellectualandsocialcontextofthelateMiddleAges,withspecialattentionpaidtopolitical,philosophicalandtheologicalconcerns.TopicsintheDivineComedyexploredoverthecourseofthesemesterincludetherelationshipbetweenethicsandaesthetics;loveandknowledge;andexileandhistory.
