AncientAustraliawasalandofdroughtandfire,withauniquefaunadominatedbymarsupials,reptilesandgiantflightlessbirds.ThefirstAustralianssharedtheirhomewiththetwo-tonneDiprotodon,thegiantshort-facedkangarooandtheplatypus.Emusandcassowariesweredwarfedbythe'demonduck'Genyornis.Predatorslikethemarsupiallionandthegiantripperlizard,Megalania,stalkedtheland.
