TheROCKYsoftwareproductwascreatedbasedon20yearsofexperienceindevelopingcomputationaltechniquesusingDEMtechnologiesatGranularDynamicsInternationalLLC,adivisionofConveyorDynamics,Inc.FurtherproductdevelopmentwillbecarriedoutwithintheBraziliancompanyESSS.Initially,thedevelopmentoftheproducttookplaceinrelationtothetasksofmineralprocessing,withafocusoncalculatingthemovementofparticlesincylindricalmillsandcontinuoustransportsystems.Withthereleaseofnewversions,thecapabilitiesofROCKYhaveexpandedsignificantly,andallowyoutoperformawiderrangeoftasks,forexample,calculatingandvisualizingtheabrasivewearofworksurfacesofequipment,calculatingairflowsarisingfromthemovementofparticlesofbulkmaterialduringtransportation,andmuchmore.

ROCKYdiffersfromothersoftwaresolutionsusingtheDEMmethodprimarilyinthepossibilitiesofusingrealisticnonsphericalparticles,simulatingtheirdestructionwithoutlossofmassandvolume,aswellascalculatingandvisualizingabrasivewearoftheworkingsurfacesofequipmentelements.Duetotheabilitytocreaterealisticparticleshapesthatbehavethesameasrealparticles,takingintoaccountvarious“flow”conditionsinROCKY,onecansimulatetheoperationofalmostanyinstallation.
