Originallywrittentosearchtheold-styleRADCOMCD-ROMs(CSVversion)purchasedfromACMA,version2.0ofRadcomSearchwasupdatedtoprovideaccesstothenewSPECTRARRLfileswhichmaybedownloadedfreefromtheACMAwebsite.

RadcomSearchisnotintendedtobeastand-aloneandrigorousassessmentofradiofrequencyinterference(RFI)issues.RadcomSearchsimplyallowsaninitialdesktopassessment,whichmayhelptoidentifyareasrequiringfurthermoredetailedanalysisndactualon-sitemeasurement.

ThemainfunctionsofRadcomSearcharedividedintoseveralsections,whichareaccessibleastabsontheprogramwindow.

SetuptaballowstheusertodefinethelocationsoftheACMAdatabasefiles,whicharenotdistributedwithRadcomSearch.Theseincludetheold-styleRADCOMCD-ROMfiles(ifused),thenewstyleSPECTRARRLfiles,and/ortheRadDEMdigitalelevationmodelfiles.TheSetuptabalsoallowstheusertoselectwhichdigitalelevationmodel(DEM)databasetouseforcalculations,eitherthebuilt-inITU-RDEM,orthemoreaccurateRadDEMdatabase.

DataMapGridtaballowstheusertoextractvariousbasicDEMandclimateparameters,acrossagridofmappoints,andsavethemtoamapgridfileforplottingwithaspreadsheetoranappropriatemappingprogram.MapgridfilesmaybeproducedfromterrainheightdatafromthecurrentlyselectedDEM,ormayconsistofoneofseveralclimateparametersfromthebuilt-inITURclimatemodels,suchasaveragetemperature,rainrate,etc.

ExtractiontaballowstheusertosearchtheACMAdatabaseoffrequencylicensesandextractmatchingrecordstoaCSVextractionfile.Theextractionfilemaythenbeviewedandeditedwithatexteditororspreadsheet(suchasExcelorOpenOfficeCalc).Extractedrecordsmaythenbeusedtocalculateinterferencepowerfluxdensity(PFD)levelsatasinglesiteoracrossamapgrid.

ConversiontaballowsuserstoconvertvariousRadcomSearchoutputfilestootherformats.Forexample,anextractionfilemaybeconvertedtoaGISmapdatafiletoallowthelocationsofantennasitesandlinkstobemapped,usingGoogleEarth,MapList-Flat,etc.Also,extractionfiles,orsinglesitePFDfilesmaybeconvertedtoTxPlancompatiblecarrierfiles,toallowthesignalfrequenciesandlevelstobeplottedinourTxPlanprogram.

PathProfiletaballowstheusertoextractapathprofileofterrainheightsbetweentwospecifiedlocations,usingthecurrentlyselectedDEM.TheLiteunregisteredprogramwillsavethepathprofileheightstoaCSVfilewhichtheusermayopenandchartinaspreadsheet.TheregisteredPROversionoftheprogramwillplotthepathonscreen,calculatepathlossforaspecifiedfrequency,andallowtheusertosavetheimageorCSVpathdata.

PFDSingleSitetaballowstheusertocalculateinterferencePFDlevelsataspecifiedlocationfromalistoftransmittersinanextractionfile.CalculationstakeaccountofterrainshieldingusingtheselectedDEM,andclimateinducedpropagationeffectssuchasrefractionandducting.ResultsaresavedtoaCSVfilewhichmaybeviewedandfurthermanipulatedusingaspreadsheetprogram.

PFDMapGridtaballowstheusertocalculateinterferencePFDlevels,fromthetransmittersinanextractionfile,ateachpointacrossaspecifiedmapgrid.Resultsaresavedtoamapgridfilewhichmaybeplottedwithaspreadsheetoranappropriatemappingprogram.
