Gridgen前身是美國空軍和宇航局出資，由通用動力公司在研製F16戰機的過程中於80年代開發的產品。後經美國政府允許， 在1994年Gridgen的編程人員成立了Pointwise公司，推出了商用化的後繼產品。Pointwise公司致力於解決工程分析所面對的頂級難題，致力於為CFD計算分析提供高品質的網格，致力於儘可能降低工程師和科研人員的在前處理中時間消耗。
目前公司有兩款產品Gridgen和Pointwise。其中，Gridgen是經典的網格生成軟件，具有CAD和CFD的良好接口。 Pointwise採用了現代軟件核心架構，它繼承並凝聚了Gridgen 27年的發展精華，是我們的新一代網格生成軟件,Pointwise最新版本為Pointwise V17.1。
PointwiseV17的正式發佈，代表著CFD網格技術一個新時代的到來，Pointwise是該公司的旗艦產品，他被認為完全可以替代Gridgen的成熟的Pointwise版本。
Pointwise前所未有地簡化網格生成過程，採用標準圖形界面，典型的平面菜單結構，標準的鍵盤熱鍵設計和用戶個性化設計使操作更加簡便；完全的undo和redo功能，自動裝配domain和block，進程條和命令打斷功能使應用更輕鬆；自定義的GUI，多種顯示方式，整合和調整網格的高度自動化，極大地減少用戶工作量；支持64位，沒有了2G內存的限制，可以對超大模型進行網格劃分，輕鬆生成過億數量網格。
Gridgen/Pointwise 獨特優勢：
1. T-Rex技術（AIAA paper no. 2007-0554）：
T-Rex技術是一項自動劃分網格技術，為解決複雜形狀幾何模型的邊界層區域網格劃分提供了理想的解決方案，更為尾跡區和其它脫體現象的流動提供了高可信的網格。在2011年3月底發佈的V15.17版本中，T-Rex技術得到很大的提高，可在網格中增加支撐擋板，以提高在薄表面或流動特徵區域網格的質量。

5.Glyph腳本語言可對重複特徵自動劃分網格，擴展Gridgen，Pointwise的功能，也可進行批處理操作，腳本語言在超大模型設計用戶中非常流行。
6. 重疊網格技術可以極大地簡化網格的生成，並且在一些特殊應用方面表現出很大的優越性。
7.由底部到頂部的建模思想，易於學習和理解，可以根據自己的使用習慣自定義工具條，省去繁瑣步驟。
